DF95 Match Racing #2
4th July 2021
The DF 95 Group held their second Match race series for the year last Sunday at Emerald Lakes all members drew a number to find the eight successful skippers to sail in the 20-race programme that followed three scratch races, which were held prior so each skipper had a chance to tune their boats.
We were very lucky with the weather as the day dawned with a bright clear sunny sky and southwest to southerly wind of 4 to 8 knots with a few gusts of 10 knots plus. It was decided to sail in area two outside the shed as it offered the best conditions and it allowed the course to run parallel to shoreline.
The multi race event is run over a windward leeward course of 2 laps with a windward beat to the finish. The 4 flights of yachts start at 2-minute intervals with a 120 second call. The race programme has been established so no one boat is immediately eliminated, each boat has at least 4 opportunities.
Once the competitors got to grips with the one-on-one sailing competition, the races become very exciting with very close finishes, plus the realization that a good start is essential if you wanted to win.
Our winner Erin Conza 88 closing the finish line in 1st Place followed closely in second place Daniel Bergen 885 well done Guys.
Because of the 2 minute starting intervals, processing and recording of the results, establishing who sails in what races a large number of help and assistance is required to make these race days a success. I would like to Richard Bray, Graham Cowling, Chris Palmer and Frank Arrowsmith for their contribution, it is much appreciated.
